Basically, the Chazon Ish really believed that trials build character. In contrast to the Novardok yeshiva (google it) where students would intentionally put themselves in embarrassing situations which would cause emotional pain and thus religious growth, the Chazon Ish thought the difficulty in keeping all of halacha would refine one's personality. Obviously, the more chumras, the more room for refinement. Hence the modern charedi philosophy of halacha.

Having previously seen the Chazon Ish only as a Talmudist, I came to respect him more for developing this approach, even if I do not agree with it in practice (and as the article states, neither did I believe R' Moshe Feinstein, nor of course many figures outside the modern charedi community).

It was a very good article. I wish I could find it again.Beisrunnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12091613751643079470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-47292681726907288572008-04-13T12:51:00.000-04:002008-04-13T12:51:00.000-04:00"Pesach cleaning parallels an inner process of rem..."Pesach cleaning parallels an inner process of removing the se'or she'b'isa"

Yes, I am sure that is exactly what Rav Rosenblum's wife is thinking as she cleans the house!

What planet does this guy live on?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-20768218595922808702008-04-11T16:55:00.000-04:002008-04-11T16:55:00.000-04:00This whole concept is insane.
