Although, if you have yet to realize that a woman actually does have something there, then: a) I'm wondering how you made it through medical school; and b) I understand why you spend so much time blogging.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15752938979399977997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-77502042458612942872009-08-13T17:26:49.292-04:002009-08-13T17:26:49.292-04:00First of all, I'm not denying her any title. ...First of all, I'm not denying her any title. It has nothing to do with what's in her head-- it's what she's got between her legs.

And, to take your doctor analogy one step further, what would you think of a rabbi who went around making a pompous ass of himself telling everyone who could or could not be addressed as "Doctor?"Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15752938979399977997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-22920209468536007842009-08-13T13:37:26.535-04:002009-08-13T13:37:26.535-04:00I dealt with this phenomemon in my Medical Model o...I dealt with this phenomemon in my Medical Model of Orthodoxy (in the essential reading section on the right of blog). Basically I advocated that no lay person be allowed to call a "gedol" or a posek to ask a question. Rather they should be directed to their local rav who, if he can, would then provide authoritative answer. Only if he is out of his expertise could he call someone higher up.

But what can I say? As a physician, Jews love specialists. If the family doctor tells the Jew his children have nose bleeds because he picks their noses sometimes, he'll demand to see a nose specialist who will him it's acute hemorrhagic anterior epistaxis induced by intermittent digital trauma. And he'll believe it!Mighty Garnel Ironhearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09571194550300367249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-1249045439962290992009-08-13T13:34:34.179-04:002009-08-13T13:34:34.179-04:00Garnel, actually, I would not call Kassin a rabbi,...Garnel, actually, I would not call Kassin a rabbi, AND, I would not call a doctor who commits a crime a doctor.

Thanks for letting us know though that you would still call Kassin a rabbi despite of his money laundering.SJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10704885840004960450noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-75924014073950732012009-08-13T12:52:53.478-04:002009-08-13T12:52:53.478-04:00Garnel

In many charedi circles, people call up a posek with their Halachik questions vis-a-vis asking their Rabbi who is reserved for speaches and leading. The obvious exception is when the pulpit rabbi is also a posek; than, he (she?) usually gets the shaylos, there is a personal relationship, etc.

Sometimes, the pulpit Rabbi gets the shaylos, but doesn't answer them, rather, calls his rebbe/posek. Why the congregant can't call the posek directly is not always clear. Maybe the Rabbi has better access..Not Briskhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12813820881313898157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-30372458605400449962009-08-13T12:39:35.279-04:002009-08-13T12:39:35.279-04:00From a secular purpose, you would to.

(Never happens but let's just say...) He loses his freedom. The medical regulatory authorities might strip him of his licence. But he still has his title which was granted to him when he graduated med school.
So Rav Saul Kassin is still a rav. He might not be acting like one should, which would make him a bad rav, but the title is still there.
