In...Where change comes from depends on the system.
In many well functioning companies, the regular employees can effect change because the senior management, confident in their abilities and loyalty to the company, have given them the power to effect change. These companies are generally successful because since even the employees on the lowest rung have a say in how the company runs and an interest in its success, they work hard at improving it.
In many parts of the Jewish community, this concept is anathema. The leadership is out of touch with the layfolk, relying on so-called askanim who have no confidence in the abilities of their followers and demand their unconditional loyalties without regard to their welfare. As a result, the individual is disenfranchised and starts to lose connection to the greater whole.
OJ's problem with adjusting to the modern world began with the advent of Reform. The result of the confrontation was a ban on innovation and acceptance of modernity because any such moves in that direction would be seen not as the natural evolution of halacha with time (which had been happening until then) but as a concession to the heretics. In order for any real Torah-true adjustments to occur, OJ has to stop worrying about how the outside Jewish world will see these changes "Ah ha! They're just like us, changing the rules when it suits them" and remember that we serve God, not the impressions of others.Mighty Garnel Ironhearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09571194550300367249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-38473530499586133482009-07-26T21:50:43.705-04:002009-07-26T21:50:43.705-04:00By the way, no obligation, but take a look and see...By the way, no obligation, but take a look and see if you would like to do the same.JewishGadflyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03531540800635608198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-50510078820542985092009-07-26T20:08:50.644-04:002009-07-26T20:08:50.644-04:00Hi, and thanks for the welcome.
> A real lea...Hi, and thanks for the welcome.

> A real leader knows that when the system isn't working, change must come and it must come from the top.

I saw a very similar comment on another blog today, and posted the same reaction there: is this really true? Does change need to come from the top? Can regular bloggers, rabbis, and laymen get together to raise awareness, educate, and effect change from the bottom up?

OJ is clearly trying to adjust to modernity, as it has been for a long time. Can it adopt a secular model of societal change?JewishGadflyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03531540800635608198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1097749014220347853.post-54835476348123964072009-07-26T17:46:35.531-04:002009-07-26T17:46:35.531-04:00I have no idea what a 9/11 truther is, but if you ...I have no idea what a 9/11 truther is, but if you honestly believe that the reasons for 9/11 happening have not come under suspicion the world over then I don't know what planet you are living on

You seem to be praising Bush as some sort of hero, despite the entire world knowing full well he is a lying ass.

What I sincerely worry about is that some non-jew stumbles upon this blog and believes the rest of Jewry hold on to the same delusions you do.

As for knocking out Iran I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon. If Iran and Israel go to war only a lunatic would believe that its not Israel which will be reduced to ash and cinder. Which is why the rest of us are working for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, while war mongerers like you do nothing but make matters worse for us.

You are a miserable creature. Please do not use it again.

Secondly, 9/11 was about Afghanistan, not Iraq. I agree that Bush II foolishly tacked Iraq onto it. It makes me sad that you are so out of touch with reality.

The entire world knows Bush lied about so-called weapons of mass destruction and 9/11 (the cause of which has come under MUCH suspicion) was a convenient excuse for launching a war for oil. So when we make a mistake, our instinct is to cover it up, ignore it, focus on the good times, instead of taking it on and learning from it....It's very important to accept that winning and losing, flying high and smashing into walls, will both be part of our lives. You've fallen into it.

Here's a really simple psak:
One who cheats, lies to, or steals from another person-- regardless of whether that person is a Jew or a gentile-- is as if he had worshipped idols, eaten pork, and violated the Sabbath.

Let's have the "Gedolim" sign that one. Of course, they won't... because the truth is, they don't really believe that all this bayn adam l'chaveyro stuff is as important is how many chumras you've got, and they certainly don't believe that it applies to anyone but Jews.

And that's why the Torah is failing.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15752938979399977997noreply@blogger.com
